Aluminium Sliding Window Hard to Slide? How to Fix Wheels, Tracks and Rubbers
By Supreme Aluminium & Hardwares, Selaiyur · Updated
Quick answer: An aluminium sliding window becomes hard to slide mainly because of dirt in the bottom track or worn-out wheels. Clean and vacuum the track first. If it is still stiff, lift the shutter out, check the wheels, and replace broken or flat nylon wheels with new nylon or bearing wheels of the same size.
Common causes
- Sand and dust packed in the bottom track.
- Broken, flat or seized wheels.
- Worn guides at the top, making the shutter wobble.
- A bent track.
Step-by-step fix
- Clean the track with a brush and vacuum, then wipe with a damp cloth.
- Lift the shutter out — raise it into the top track and swing the bottom out.
- Check the wheels — they should spin freely and be round.
- Replace wheels — bring the old one or a photo; we match nylon or bearing wheels.
- Replace guides and rubbers if the shutter rattles or lets in dust.
- Refit and test. Do not oil the track — oil collects dust.
Tip: Bearing wheels cost a little more than nylon wheels but slide much more smoothly and last longer.
