2-Track vs 3-Track Aluminium Sliding Windows: Which Should You Choose?
By Supreme Aluminium & Hardwares, Selaiyur · Updated
What is a 2-track sliding window?
A 2-track window has an outer frame with two parallel tracks. Each track carries one glass shutter, and the two shutters slide past each other. It is the simplest and most economical aluminium window and needs the least frame depth.
What is a 3-track sliding window?
A 3-track window adds a third track for a mosquito-mesh shutter. You get two glass shutters and one mesh shutter in the same frame. In the evening you can slide the glass open for air while the mesh stays closed to keep mosquitoes out — which matters in almost every part of Chennai.
Quick comparison
- Mosquito protection: 3-track has it built in. 2-track needs a separate mesh frame.
- Frame depth: 3-track needs a deeper frame (check your wall thickness).
- Cost: 3-track uses more section and an extra shutter, so it costs more per window.
- Best for: 3-track for bedrooms, halls and balconies. 2-track for bathrooms, kitchens, stairs and ventilators.
What to tell your fabricator
- The opening size (width × height) of each window — see our measuring guide.
- 2-track or 3-track for each opening.
- Finish colour — Ivory, Black, White, Silver, Brown or Nut Brown.
- Glass type — plain, frosted (for bathrooms) or toughened.
- Wheel type — bearing wheels slide more smoothly and last longer than nylon wheels.
Tip: Use the same section series and colour for every window in the house. It looks neater and makes future repairs easier because the wheels, guides and rubbers are interchangeable.
