How to Measure Windows and Doors for Aluminium Fabrication (Send on WhatsApp)

What you need

A steel measuring tape, your phone camera, and a notebook or WhatsApp to note sizes.

Step-by-step

1. Measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom.
2. Measure the height at the left side, centre and right side.
3. Write down the smallest width and smallest height. Walls are rarely perfectly square, and the smallest size makes sure the frame fits.
4. Number each window (W1, W2, D1…) and note which room it is in.
5. Take a photo of each opening from straight in front.
6. Note the wall thickness if you want a 3-track window — it needs a deeper frame.

What to send for a quote

• Sizes for each opening (width × height).
• Type: 2-track, 3-track, fixed glass, door, partition or mosquito-mesh shutter.
• Colour: Ivory, Black, White, Silver, Brown or Nut Brown.
• Glass: plain, frosted or toughened.
• Your area (e.g. Tambaram, Chromepet, Medavakkam) for delivery.

Tip: Measure in millimetres if you can — it avoids rounding errors that cause gaps around the frame.

Common mistakes

• Measuring only once in the middle.
• Measuring the old frame instead of the wall opening when replacing windows.
• Forgetting to mention if tiles or plastering are still pending — that changes the final opening size.
