Aluminium Section Sizes and Thickness Guide: 2 × 1, 2.5 × 1.5 and More
By Supreme Aluminium & Hardwares, Selaiyur · Updated
The common sizes
- 2 × 1 inch channel (single / double): the standard frame for aluminium partitions, cabins and box frames.
- 2.5 × 1.5 inch section (single / double): the standard for aluminium doors, especially bathroom and partition doors.
- L-angles, E-channels and PA channels: edging, corners, mesh and glazing.
- Sliding window series: 2-track and 3-track frames with matching shutter, interlock and track sections.
Single vs double section
A single section holds a board or glass on one side. A double section has a central web and holds infill on both faces, so it is stiffer. Use double sections for doors and anything over about 7 ft tall.
Thickness (gauge) matters
Two sections that look the same can differ a lot in wall thickness. Thin sections are cheaper but bend, rattle and lose screws over time. 1. Compare weight per length — heavier usually means thicker walls. 2. Check the cut end — the wall should be even all around. 3. Ask for the brand and grade on the bill.
Which finish?
Powder-coated and anodised finishes protect the section and match interiors. We stock Ivory, Black, White, Silver, Brown and Nut Brown.
